In 1992, a three year old kid sat in front of a television screen watching Garth Brooks own the stage in front of a crowd of thousands. Trey knew from then on that there was nothing else in this world that he wanted more than to play music and perform. Growing up as a pastor's kid, moving was a pretty regular thing in the Smith household. He started playing the guitar at the age of ten, and started writing his own music at the age of fifteen, but didn't truly discover his passion for performance until he won a high school talent show. "I had never really performed in front of a big crowd before that night", says Smith, "but for some reason, as soon as I started the song, all of my nerves and worries just faded away and it was just me and my audience".
As Trey headed off to college at the University of North Texas, he became very involved with some friends of his, and eventually formed the band, Ashford. During his time with the alternative rock band, Trey continued to hone his skills as a writer and performer, playing at venues and events all over the DFW area. After a few years with the band, the members ended up going their seperate ways, however Trey was no where near wanting to give up his dream of being a recording and performing artist. After a few months of performing as a solo act, and playing with various other ensembles, he found an open door in the last place he expected to look: country music. After playing a "trial" show with a friend of his named Jennifer Fiedler, who he had known since he was young, he knew exactly which direction the music would take him. With his background in rock music, Smith brings a unique sound to the country duo that makes you want to listen over and over again.
Growing up watching Leann Rimes wow crowds on the Johnnie High Country music stage sparked an interest in a nine year old little girl to start pursuing her dreams. Jennifer Fiedler knew from then on that she wanted to sing country music. At the age of thirteen, Jennifer got the courage to audition for the same show she watched her country idol perform for, and there began her journey of developing her talent. "Johnnie's gave me the exposure to a large crowd, live band, and full stage experience. Not many young girls get that opportunity", says Jennifer. After three years at Johnnie's, she was named one of the "most incredible kids performer", and appeared on one of his featured television shows. Performing started to become second nature to her as she began to pick up venues and oprys all over the DFW Metroplex.
As she began to expand her music genre, she landed into singing Christian Contemporary and worship music. That avenue led her to a spot on the T.V. competition show: "Gospel Dream" in Nashville. Jennifer made it through the Dallas auditions, all the way to the top 36 before falling short at the top 10. "That show was one of the greatest experiences of my life", says Jennifer, "Sometimes God opens doors and closes others, and you just have to keep pursuing and waiting for another door to be opened". After filming the show in Nashville, she headed back to Texas to graduate high school and achieve her college degree. During college, she has performed at the Big Dallas Opry, The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Johnnie High Country Music Review, Immerse Artist competition, The Texas Theater, Grammy- U Texas Chapter kick off Party, and many other campus events. Some of her highlights of the past year were performing twice before Grammy nominee and Dove award winner Ty Herndon, and six-time Grammy winner Billy Dean.
Although Jennifer has had much success on her own, she never expected to have a huge asset to her future career come knocking at the door. From the moment Trey Smith sang beautiful harmony and played his guitar, Jennifer's spark came to life all over again. Trey was the missing piece to the puzzle, and Jennifer's crystal clear voice and engaging stage presence puts the dynamic in duo.
